Islam does not allow a muslim to beat his wife. Prophet Muhammad SAW said that if a muslims wife is disobedient to her husband then talk to her to solve the problem. if she does not listened to you then separate your bed from her and if after that she does not listen to you then you can hit her with muswak. muswak is a small stick to brush teeth so hitting her with that stick is a symbolic beating showing husbands disagreement with the wife on certain topic. so it is prohibited to beat one's wife in Islam.
